Head feathers??
« on: January 17, 2012, 01:25:35 PM »

One of my budgies, Ken, has some of his feathers growing a bit funny on his head. He is young, so maybe he it's just his adult feathers growing but I just thought I would ask just in case :)

Corie was going to visit family...I think I am right in saying it was straight after his move...sure he won't mind me saying because he posted about it  :) ...but it just isn't right without him eh?

Annie I love Ken's markings, he is very striking...if you mean the spikey-ness of his hair, I think that's pretty normal, Buzz looks a bit like that at the mo.  :D

The spikey bits, or punk rocker bits as I like to call them, are pin feathers coming through. After a moult, new feathers will come through, and they'll have a sheath encasing them. This is that ;)

Hi Mistya,

Bluey is looking the same at the moment he has just turned 6 month and is going through his first moult his head is the same his tail feathers came out last week and I panicked but now know its normal as he has his new ones growing. Was strange him only having little ones lol.

Does anyone know if they need anything else in their diet when they are going through their moult he gets is fruit and veg but in my pet shop they have conditioning seed they told me sometimes people mix it with the normal seed when they are moulting does anyone else mix it ? And if so how long do you keep mixing it for ?

Regards Vicki
