Why don't my two like fruit or veg? They will eat the trill toppers when I give them to them (twice a month) but they turn there nose up at everything. Not even a nibble.

All they will eat is seat and they will nibble the cuttle bone.

They are coming up for a year old soon, is it too late for them to change their eating habbits.

They are stubborn little things as I have the same problem with trying to get them to sit on my finger.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

My budgies are fussy too!! Just keep offering them it every day! Try small pieces or grated pieces!

My Budgies are a year too now and Lilly will still not touch veg!!!

I wizz my fresh fruit and veg up in a mini food processor so the bits are about the same size as seed.

My 3 yr old rehome has started enjoying it with the others budgies so all hope is not lost...perhaps try sprinkling some seed on top for the first week or so to encourage them to investigate...be prepared to throw a lot away for the first couple of weeks. I think half the problem is getting them to recognise it as food as also to not be scared/wary of the plate or dish you serve it in.

The food processor is a good idea actually, I think i'll try that.  :)

Someone in the pet shop suggested taking the seed out after they have eaten in the morning and give them veg to snack on then replace the seed later to encourrage them to look for other food, is that safe to do?

Does the position that the veg is placed have an effect? In that I mean is it better hanging from the top of the cage rather than the side?

As Toille said try wizzing it up, put the wizzed veg in a shallow dish/plate on the bottom of the cage they like it this way  ;)

Just keep doing it twice daily, they will waste it to start with, just do small portions.
