In Memory Of My Joey
« on: January 29, 2012, 07:04:07 PM »

Isn't it strange how budgies can get under your skin?  I still feel that way about my budgie, Joey, who I lost in January 1985 - he was 4 years old.  He had been ill for a little while but it still came as a shock when I lost him.  I used to love the way he was at the top of the cage waiting for his beak to be kissed when I got up on a morning and I had a way of making him puff up his feathers so I could stroke them.  He loved it.

When he got so ill that he could not climb he came over to the side of the cage and put his beak round one of the bars so I could still give him a kiss.  Unreal!  He still wanted his beak kissed even though he was sick.

He was my little spuggy (that's what my Mam called him when she hoovered the carpet where there was seed on the floor).  I still miss him very much and think of him every day.....and his lovely puffed up feathers.
Bless you Joey.

Yep pets, it doesn't matter if they have 2 legs, 4 legs or no legs, they are still members of the family with their own individual little ways. joey sounds like he was a real character :)

He was a real character all right!  When he was on top of the cage we had a mirror that hung on the wall and always made for that mirror (vane little bird).  He would start hitting it with his beak and then nodding his head up and down before talking away to himself. :)

But I liked watching him when he was quiet, puffed up and cracking his beak to himself which meant that I knew he was happy!
